Second Report - After Six Months Use of the Noctura 400 Sleep Mask.
The following blog is to update you of my experience following six months use of the Noctura 400 sleep mask, the non-invasive therapy for retinopathy & macular oedema. Which has been proven to slow down or halt retinopathy progression by using the green light from two Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs).
As an older person having had T1 diabetes for over 70 years I consider myself lucky that the only complications that I have are slight retinopathy & macular oedema in both of my eyes. My vision is important to me so I am pleased to be trying the Noctura 400 to see if it will help me stave off these complications.
The use of the mask each night is important for maximum benefit. The pod records the mask use each night so there's no hiding. After my first 3 months, my adherence to mask use was 93% - I had missed some days while traveling. There was no scan at this time as it usually takes at least 6 months to see any results. This is the print-off of the pod results for that period.
After returning my second pod at six months I am pleased to say that I managed 98% of mask use adherence.
The data shows that I used the Noctura 400 every night and the consistent green lines show that the mask was making good contact with my face and I was getting the maximum benefit from the green light.
I recently returned to the Concept Eye Clinic and had my eyes tested for Visual Acuity and they were scanned with an advanced Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) camera system that did not require my eyes to be dilated. A big plus for me!
This scan produces a 3D image of the retina that creates cross-sectional images, which show detailed images of the eye's structure - a bit like slicing a cake. These images can then be compared to previous ones.
The results are in:
Visual Acuity
After 6 months use of the Noctura 400 Sleep Mask my left eye Visual Acuity has remained stable at what is often called "20:20 vision." My right eye Visual Acuity has improved from 6/9.5 to 6/7.5. This is better described as " I can read 1 more line on the eye chart
OCT Scans
As stated, I was advised that I had slight retinopathy & macular oedema at baseline therefore were not expecting to see much change - in fact a result of staying stable was the aim here.
The good news is that the OCT scans also show a small improvement in both eyes with small reductions in the key thickness and volume measures. No mention of macular oedema. The fact that all of my OCT thickness and volume numbers have gone down supports this. I am extremely happy with these results.
Moira Hopkins, the Clinical Operations Manager at PolyPhotonix Ltd said "The improvements are all small, but the great news is that the numbers are all going in the right direction."
My aim at the start of this evaluation of the Noctura 400 Sleep Mask was to try to remain stable and hopefully get some improvement. We are talking 'micro' measurements here but a win is a win. I am so very happy that there is improvement. This is noticeable to me as my vision seems to be clearer especially in my right eye.
I want to continue and look forward to telling you how I get on when my current pod expires & I get the next set of results.
I would encourage other who are considering using the Noctura 400 is read up about how it works and maybe give it a try. You never know your vision may improve as well. For information about the Noctura 400 Sleep Mask go to https://noctura.com
