pan-London implementation documents for CGM sensors for adults with type 1 diabetes approved

15/12/2022

Regarding the implementation of NICE NG17 guidelines approval in London.

A set of 3 pan-London implementation documents for continuous glucose sensors for adults with type 1 diabetes. Have been approved by NHS England London, NHS London Clinical Networks & NHS London Procurement Partnership on 5 October 2022 & were distributed on 12 October 2022.

They can be downloaded from NHS England here:

The pdf contains links to the two other documents.

But, these now have to be approved by each ICS area.  Where I live South West London ICS have still not announced if they have approved them for this area.  This seems to be a repeat of the Libre rollout. A bit of a postcode lottery.

I first emailed South West London ICS on 21 September 2022 & received an answer from I assume Meds Management via the Complaints & Patient Information Officer on 7 October 2022.

On the 1 December I emailed SW London ICS again writing:

"Since I last enquired with you regarding the implementation of NICE NG 17 Guidelines.  A set of 3 pan-London implementation documents for continuous glucose sensors for adults with type 1 diabetes. Have been approved by NHS England London, NHS London Clinical Networks & NHS London Procurement Partnership on 5 October 2022 & were distributed on 12 October 2022.

You advised me on 7 October 2022  "Once the document has been approved there we will take it through our South West London approval process for approval."

It is now 1 December, would you please explain why these agreed documents that you said "NHS South West London were working closely with London wide Diabetes Specialist colleagues in relation to implementation of this NICE NG17 guideline" have as far as I am aware not been implemented & seem to have stalled. As a stakeholder could you please advise of the current situation. I await your reply with interest"

On 12 December requested an update  again & was advised "Please allow me to follow up with the Medicines Management Team and I will respond presently."

I wont hold my breathe.
