My Diabetes UK Professional Care Conference Year 2
I was fortunate to be selected by #dedoc° to attend in person the Diabetes UK Professional Care Conference for the 2nd year in a row.
At last year's conference, it was suggested that I write an article to be published in the BMJ. Resulting in the publication of my article 'Quality care is needed for older people with diabetes in care homes—now and for the future' in November 2024. Which I am told was received well.
This year, I returned with the same aim that there needs to be a drastic improvement in carers' basic diabetes management skills in the care home setting.
With that in mind, I spent most of my time during this 3-day conference networking with health care professionals, allied services & diabetes charities. Resulting in many conversations & emails being sent to try to 'get the ball rolling.'
I attended a limited number of lectures, including 'Modern approaches to diabetes care in older adults' and of course, the excellent #dedoc° voices speaking in the '#dedoc° symposium.'
Since returning home, the emails have continued, and Zoom meetings have taken place. Obviously, this is a work in progress, and these things take a long time to come to fruition. I am optimistic that there will be news later in the year. So stay tuned.
